Hikyes Tomb

I've been dragging a bit on the blogging lately.  Long hours at work and family pressures have kept me too busy to write, but I am going  on several adventures in the next few weeks that may bring more wonderful ghost stories.  I am going to Cheboygan, Michigan in a few weeks to make plans for our old family house and bring some family heirlooms home in case the house is sold.  The Newton-Allaire house is haunted and it will be fun returning to the house where my passion for the paranormal began.  Although it might be a challenge getting my boys to sleep in this old, haunted house, it will certainly be heaven for me.

While I'm there,  I thought I might explore some other famous Michigan haunts.   One of the more famous and fascinating ghost stories that comes from Cheboygan is the story of Hikyes tomb.  According to legend, the farmer who lived here went insane and killed his entire family and then killed himself.     It is said that if you cross over the tomb, you will be filled with dread.  If you take a stone from the tomb,  you are carrying the tomb's curse with you.  Many report seeing ghosts and describe paranormal activity from this site.

Finding this one may be a challenge as I can't find any description of the location, however,  I have never minded humiliating myself by asking everyone I meet if they know where Hykes tomb is located.   Maybe someone in the family knows.

Hikyes Tomb is not Haunted... Hikyes did not kill his family and himself or anything like that. The story has been changed to be a ghost story over the years. The real story is of a man who thought he could speak to god. Wherever he was able to speak to god, he built a stone pile monument. They're were more than the one towards Black Mountain. All Hikyes "Tomb" currently is a ruined monument by a crazy guy. Cheboygan High Schoolers go to underage drink.

I live in cheboygan and have all my life i know the story i have done my research with police that were on the force at the time and they dont talk about it hikye was a man that had visions from god he would build a "tomb" everytime he had one and it did resault into him killing his family not in the woods at his cabin but at his house that is still standing in city limits he was caught and found mentally insane and was hospitalized and that is where he died he didnt kill him self he killed his family to protect them from the visions he had (he said he seen bad things happen and couldnt stop them)and the county tore down the cabin of his but the well and one of the "tombs" are still standing and yes high school kids do go out there to drink and party but where they call hikyes is not where the cabin was or where the well and tomb are and yes you have to be a local to find it if you havent ever been there then you will get lost or end up somewhere you are not planning on going and the legend is that if you mess with the tomb like taking one of the rocks something bad will happen to you i have been a witness to someone taking a rock and on there way to there car they broke there ancle and people taking rocks and there cars not starting they put the rocks back and they do... I believe as a local that it is a respect thing if you mess with his property he doesnt like it if you respect his things then you are fine and unless you are really looking for his "tomb" or property your not going to just stumble on to it maybe if your lost two tracking but very unlikely

I live down the street from his cabin. There is a lot of damage to the tombs but there is still 1 standing in the city limits that I don't believe very many people know about.
